100% Human Series: Curly Hair

I have curly hair, at times I have hated it, and at times I have loved it. I think I’ve learned from it.

My hair does what it does. I can put it in little braids or bundles or pin it up, but it still is curly and it is following the curly path that was designed by my DNA. My hair rarely (or never) looks perfect, it doesn’t follow any rules. Sometimes I blow dry my hair straight and I know I won’t have to do anything to it for a few days, which is nice, but it makes me feel like an imposter. Like someone pretending to have it all together even though at the nape of my neck my hair is already rebelling and curling into tight little ringlets. Straight hair makes me feel like a newscaster with smooth outer shell. Like I should put on a dress (probably a bright red or royal blue)put some lipstick on and talk to you about the weather in your area.

Curly hair is a reminder to me that I can only be myself, and if I try to be someone else my insulted inner truth will somehow, and at some point betray me.. we aren’t “perfect”, We are human beings.
